A classic but very up-to-date Barcelona great, The Hotel Claris has lots of family-friendly considerations and a central, yet peaceful, address.

Located a short walk north from Barcelona’s official central hub, The Place de Catalunya, The Hotel Claris Barcelona resides on on Pau Claris (a gorgeous tree-lined avenue that runs parallel to the retail haven that is Passeig de Gracia). The hotel has existed for years but, thanks to a refurbishment just a few years back, it is bang up-to-date, while retaining it’s original grace and boutique feel. The staff are incredibly welcoming and work on the premise that they will do whatever they can for you so there isn’t much they won’t arrange if it’s within their means. The location is ideal because it affords you easy access to every area of the city you could want, without being in the midst of the tourist hubbubs that fringe the Ramblas and the port area just south of this delightful hotel. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the Hotel Claris is extremely personal and luxurious, without being intimidating (so you won’t feel frowned upon for bringing children at all). It is as elegant and unique as the city in which it sleeps.

For You -

The two-story apartment style rooms are ideal if you’re travelling with children as, not only are they gorgeously designed, but they afford you all the space and privacy you need. The hotel’s Mediterranean, rooftop restaurant, La Terraza del Claris, is a delightful spot to enjoy lunch in the sunshine (there is both indoor and outdoor seating) that offers a menu that will please the whole family. If you fancy a night out the hotel will arrange babysitters and, should that leave you some time alone but you don’t want to go far, the hotel’s bar, East 47, is a cosy little bolt hole that serves killer cocktails and tapas.

For Them +

There is an ever-changing art exhibit on the first floor that will mesmerise young children (there are lots of ancient artefacts suitably encased so no need to watch them) and, on very hot days, the rooftop swimming pool is a haven from the Spanish summertime heat. Not all hotels in Barcelona have outdoor pools because of a lack of space and this one, not only wonderfully located, is the perfect size for children and boasts comfortable poolside loungers for parents. Those needing further suggestions of what to do with children in Barcelona will adore the helpful concierge who can arrange a wealth of age-appropriate activities for families.
