Borgo Egnazia entrance
Justin Timberlake married Jessica Biel at The Borgo Egnazia with good reason. A limestone estate of stunning comfort and luxury in the heart of Puglia’s countryside.
Borgo Egnazia appears seemingly out of nowhere. A short drive down a dusty little Italian country road and its off-white façade suddenly appears as if out of magic from within the olive trees and citrus groves. Only finished in 2011, it actually looks as though it’s an original Italian Borgo (meaning village) that has been renovated with panache and style. Bird-cages hang from the high lobby ceiling, the two outdoor pools glisten in the Adriatic sunshine and one simply feels as though they could move in on a permanent basis. If you can afford a villa, by all means book one (they are fabulous). Otherwise, the apartments are ideal for those travelling with children. They each have an outdoor private eating area and kitchens where meals can be loving cooked (either by you or a chef) and will feel very much like a second holiday home by the time you’ve unpacked. Plushness for parents meets kiddie heaven with perfection here.
For You -
The Vair spa (nothing but Italian staff, products and Apulian methods here), the San Domenico 18-hole golf club which sit right between the sea and the Borgo Egnazia, and staff who will design your stay as much or as little as you want them to. If you’re after day trips, local restaurant recommendations and travel arrangements made they can organize that. If you want to be left in quiet solitude to enjoy a family holiday, they’ll leave you be. This is not a resort but rather somewhere that you can receive as much or as little fuss and pampering as you desire.
For Them +
Surely one of the finest children’s clubs ever made. The Trullaleri Kids’ Club is an oasis for little ones aged 8 months to 12 years: everything from cribs in a sensory room to toys, ceramics classes to baking lessons, a children’s swimming pool to a giant pirate ship climbing frame. The Teen Club is also available for bigger kids. An array of bikes can be hired (from small tricycles to adult versions with baby sits attached) and there are two beach clubs. One is the Cala Masciola where you can enjoy lunch. The other is La Fonte Beach, which is best for young children as it’s defined by delicate sand, very clear water, beach toys and gazebos. Also on offer? Horseback riding, go-karting, scuba diving, windsurfing, and tennis. You get the picture…
