This 1920’s Orient Express hotel, Copacabana Palace, is the grand dame of Rio hotels.
Quite simply, the 245-room Copacabana Palace Hotel is the crème de la crème of the city’s hotels. The guestbook reads like a red carpet roll call: Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela and Tom Cruise have all, at one time or another, rested their heads on the Palace’s finest pillows. What is more, this quintessential Rio beauty has just had a $20 million facelift. The original Art Deco features remain intact, but the bedrooms, bathrooms and Cipriani Restaurant have all been beautifully revamped.
For You -
There’s a 24-hour swimming pool, plus sun loungers and umbrellas waiting for you on the golden sands of Copacabana Beach. The three-floor Copacabana Palace Spa has all the treatments you need to keep up with the Brazilian beach beauties (for a true MOT, there’s a five-hour treatment). And family-friendly perks can include 50% off a second room.
For Them +
The hotel organises Jeep safaris, which involve travelling in an open-topped 4WD to Tijuca Rainforest, and stopping off at the Botanical Gardens, home to giant water lilies, redwood trees and over 500 different types of orchid. There’s also a fleet of bicycles waiting to be taken for a spin along the beach or around Lake Rodrigo de Freitas.
