Golden Sands resort is big and bustling and not as intimate as some, but it was designed with family-friendly luxury in mind and absolutely delivers. Owned by the incredible Shangri-La group, this has all the markings of serious, sumptuous luxury but with plenty to keep the whole family happy. The 10,300 metre square Adventure Zone is one-of-a-kind (and also houses an excellent kid’s club,) and the several on-site restaurants offer delectable adult and children’s dishes that can be enjoyed anywhere, from your room to the pool, the garden café to the beach.

Segway personal transporters (which older children will adore as well) to get you about the resort with ease. The organized jungle walk is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the resort’s natural environment, while onsite you can learn Congkak (a local Malay game,) palmistry or local cooking.

The Adventure Zone, which is a giant adventure area located on Batu Feringgi beach between The Golden Sands Resort and its sister-hotel and neighbor, The Shangri La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa. Aside from the endless slides and climbing areas there is the “Toddler Zone” for 4 year olds and under, which includes a ball pool, “swinging snakes,” bish bags and a play kitchen. For older children there is a plethora of ramps, poles, swings, squeeze rollers and bridges to explore, while a third area has the requisite teenage Nintendo Wii consoles, air hockey and arcade games.
