The Relais Royal, Mirepoix is a home-from-home type hotel in the mediaeval town of Mirepoix.
The Ariege’s one and only four-star hotel, this 18th century Relais and Chateaux property, still crammed with original features, was a private home until being lovingly converted by its current owners into the Relais Royal Mirepoix. Set around a pretty courtyard, each of the four rooms and five suites is totally different. The duplex suite on the ground floor is ideal for families with older children (the spiral staircase may make it unsuitable for toddlers) but most rooms and suites can accommodate extra beds and / or cots.

Stunning rooms with huge beds and enormous, white-shuttered windows, a fabulous restaurant and a small, but perfectly-formed, plunge pool for the hotter months. In-room massages can be arranged.

Massive jars of sweets in reception which the kids can help themselves to (with your permission of course!) and iPads in the dining room to distract them if mealtimes start getting a bit fraught. The chef has created a children’s tasting menu in which they are served simple, yet interesting, food (such as violet potatoes, and veal) – this proves a far cry from the steak haché or chicken nuggets of many French children’s menus. They are even offered amuse bouches.
