Rock it riverside at Brooklyn's hippest hotel, The Wythe.
This former textile mill, The Wythe Hotel, is just a few blocks back from the Williamsburg waterfront and has been given a faultlessly cool do-over. Expect eye-popping Manhattan views from the L-shaped roof terrace, striking design (think hand-printed wallpaper and salvaged industrial features) and spectacularly good tangley fries at beamed eatery, Reynard’s.
For You -
Refreshingly, The Wythe is devoid of hotel stereotypes such as Frette linens. Emphasis is on the locally sourced: beds and desks are hewn from wood saved during the renovation; local small batch ice-cream can be found in your mini bar; and the bathroom goodies come courtesy of Goldies (made in the Rockaway’s). You’re also in the midst of Brooklyn’s foodie revolution. Elm (run by two Michelin-starred chefs), Five Leaves, Marlow and Sons (the brains behind the hotel’s own Reynard’s) and Egg, are all in your neighborhood.
For Them +
Bunk bed rooms can be joined to a double king room (great for older kids who will adore the HD flat screens at the foot of each bunk). Cribs and mini air mattresses can also be requested. McCarran Park – the area’s biggest chunk of green space – is just a few minutes walk away, as is the waterfront. It’s free to visit nearby McCarran pool, an enormous outdoor lido dating back to the 1930’s (just check with the concierge regarding the pool rules before you head over). And the whole family will adore Brooklyn Bowl, an all-in-one bowl, dine, gig venue (which is family-friendly at weekends between 12pm and 6pm).
