Verbier may have a reputation as being a bit of a playground for Chanel ski-suited and booted bankers from Geneva, but it is also loved by many for luxury family holidays. The picture-perfect aesthetic of this gorgeous Alpine village, set as it is amongst the southwest canton of Valais, is very family-friendly, has ski schools for every age and ability, and of course, a healthy splattering of stunning hotels, restaurants, spas, bars and boutiques. Both kids and adults will love it so, if you can stomach the cost, we recommend it without reservation. And if you're not a big family of skiers, don't write it off. These mountains are as full of life in the summer months, to

La Chaux, 1936 Verbier
Known for serving delightful tapas bites and delicious drinks to those needing a quick pick me up on the slopes, Le Dahu is a perfect place to lunch with kids, too. You can enjoy the fresh fish and local cheeses on the menu while children will adore the pizzas. Another Alpine chalet that seems carved out the side of the mountain, Le Dahu has the relaxed informality of a cafe in one of the most scenic locations imaginable.
Le Carrefour
1750m. above Verbier.
Recently revamped, Le Carrefour is the ultimate mountainside lunch spot complete with a sun-drenched terrace with mountain views and cosy indoor tables for when the wind is really howling. The inside has been revamped in both its cuisine and decor, with more space between tables to give the restaurant a light and airy feel. It is absolutely child-friendly but does encourage booking in advance, especially during the busy months.
Les Ruinettes
2200m. above Verbier, CH – 1936, Verbier
Located at 2200 meters, this mountainside hotspot above the town of Verbier is a perfect rest stop for skiers of all sizes. With six restaurants and bars there is something for everyone, though the one best suited to children seems to be The Self which has a food-court style so children can choose between pizza, burgers, salads, and pastas, for example, in this very relaxed, totally child-friendly environ. All ingredients are fresh every day and the restaurant offers qualified staff to look after even the smallest of children so you can head off to one of Les Ruinettes other culinary offerings and enjoy a quiet lunch of your own.
Verbier St-Bernard bike trails
If you’re in Verbier during the spring and summer months and you have children of good biking ability, there are endless options for great rides. Verbier St-Bernard is a major mountain biker’s destination that has now introduced two trailblazing downhill mountain bike routes and 21 new Enduro itineraries. Verbier is home to more than 826 kilometres of mountain bike trails, 500 kilometres of cross-country trails, 108 kilometres of all-mountain routes, and 12 kilometres of downhill tracks, so there is far more reason to visit than just skiing.
Quad biking
Quad Adventure is a Verbier-based company that caters their quad bikes to your every need. Ski racks and luggage storage boxes, for example, can be added to their quad bikes that are for hire and make for wonderful mountain exploration. Quad Adventure are located at Route de Verbier 23.
Kids' Summer and Winter Camps
There are a few summer camps available in and around Verbier for young children but we recommend Altitude, who organise every imaginable activity for children aged between 3 and 16 years of age with very smart accommodation to boot. Offering both two week residential camps in July or daily programs, they have also introduced programs specially for children aged between 3 and 5.
Horse-riding
Again, warmer months have just as much to offer and the horse-riding around Verbier will give you unparalleled views of the area. Les Ecuries Verbier has horse-riding lessons and walks for all ages, a kids’ soft play area and a bar area for drinks and snacks. (It is open only in the summer months and are located at Verbier 1936).
Ice Skating and swimming
Centre Sportif de Verbier is located on Rue de la Piscine and has a delightful ice rink that makes a perfect spot to introduce small children to the joys of skating. It also has a kids’ club and a swimming pool, making it perfect for those in verbier with very young children who are too young yet to ski.
About
Verbier is a gorgeous Alpine town with lots of quintessentially Swiss Chalet-style buildings that dot their way throughout this mountain beauty. It is very popular and it is very pretty, but it is very expensive so go prepared to spend. Located in the heart of the Swiss Alps in the canton of Valais, the stunning resort of Verbier is perched in a sunny bowl high above the Rhone River. Along with St-Bernard and La Tzoumaz, the area of Verbier – St Bernard offers over 400kms of hiking, biking and world class skiing. It is as wonderful by summer as it is by winter so if you aren’t a big skiing family, it’s still well worth a look in. For tech-lovers, Verbier has joined forces with Téléverbier to create a unique app that will host everything skiers could possibly need to know about the resort. From maps of both the resort and the piste, to hotels and weather forecasts, it can all be found both on and offline, meaning that all skiers will have access to the app at any time.
