Every now and then a luxury family hotel hits every high note. The Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort is one such property and we can't recommend it enough.
Every now and then a hotel crops up that hits every high note. The Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort is one such property. It was designed, specifically, with families in mind. Just over an hour’s drive from Faro airport (or two and a half from Lisbon if you want to throw some culture in), the staff at Martinhal will happily arrange either airport transfers or car hire on your behalf. There is a stunning spa, endless dining options, a beautifully maintained beach and it’s next to a nature park, rife for exploration. There are no less than five pools (essential for children, of course) and the array of family villas make for a wonderful home-from-home. And if you are travelling with very young children, the hotel has a “baby concierge” service, meaning you can pre-book everything from nappies to stair gates, baby changing mats to pushchairs. This will leave you able to fly and flop on arrival without bringing half your house with you.

The incredible array of villas means you can enjoy a holiday with your children without feeling as though you’ve had no time for yourself. Spacious and very well thought out, there is an optional daily maid service (excluding kitchen) if you want to truly unwind. The restaurants have specific kids’ areas and staffed children’s corners so you can unwind with a coffee or a quiet lunch and your little ones won’t feel robbed of play time. If they do join you, however, there are fantastic children’s menu options that are healthy so you get peace of mind and they get well fed. And then there’s the Finisterra spa. “Heavenly” is the word that springs to mind.

If your little one is a spa lover, there are family treatments that include parent – child massages. And if you’ve an active toddler on your hands, there’s no end to the face painting and treasure hunting on offer. Older children can enjoy cooking lessons and t-shirt painting, picnics are organised around the resort’s grounds and there’s plenty of table tennis, pool and football to be had. Older kids love the Explorers and Blast Club for windsurfing and dolphin watching and the Martinhal has a Sports academy that offers surfing, windsurfing, swimming, tennis and football. You’ll find no less than 37,000 square feet of play areas, crèches, kids clubs and kids corners so their ability to have fun and make friends meets no boundaries.
